FAQs

How can I save money on my electricity bill?

Getting in the habit of turning off lights, unplugging appliances when not in use, and upgrading to LED light bulbs can all help. But for really big savings, look at your home’s heating and cooling systems: upgrading to high-efficiency models can dramatically increase energy efficiency, with heating AFUE ratings going from 56-70% for old models to 95% with new furnaces, and air conditioners going from a SEER rating of 13 for older models to 18 or higher. Installing a smart thermostat is another way to save money on energy bills, regardless of system age or efficiency.
We’ll work with you to determine eligibility – but in general, most equipment that has a Mass Save® rebate is also eligible for the HEAT Loan. Some heat pumps without rebates do also qualify; these are confirmed on a case-by-case basis. Peripheral equipment like humidifiers, air filters, and air cleaners are not eligible.
If you have a heat pump you should NEVER cover it. It is being used year-round and needs to breathe. If you have a standard cool-only condenser, we still recommend that you don’t cover it. When you cover it you make a nice home for rodents that could damage your equipment.
For questions concerning the home comfort system, contact Beantown Home Services. Contact information is included in your Premier Program agreement.
Possibly! The $10,000 Mass Save® rebate is given as a Whole House Heat Pump Rebate. This means the heat pumps must be capable of being the sole source of heating the home, the pre-existing heating system must be removed or disconnected, and homes must be occupied full time during the winter heating season.
Mass Save® offers rebates on eligible furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, and water heaters.
